WordPress has added the Redis Object Cache as a recommended plugin to their health check page.
This is a poor recommendation and we do not recommend or support it.
The redis object cache is potentially useful on high traffic sites (1,000,000 pageviews/month), but can also create caching complications, increased server resource usage, and makes troubleshooting issues much more complex.
The benefit to smaller sites is negligible or non existent.
As such, we have a blanket recommendation against using this.
The exception would be for sites doing 1,000,000 pageviews/month or higher, and have hired NerdPress to support this.

I have implemented a Redis Object Cache via my host, BigScoots - would you still recommend against this?

We won't be able to offer troubleshooting for issues relating to it. If BigScoots will support it for you, then you can use BigScoots for troubleshooting.
