We do not recommend or support the use of block themes at this time.
Instead, we've taken a hybrid theme approach.
Based on the conversations and presentations at Wordcamp US, the official WordPress conference we attended in 2022 and 2023, the Full Site Editor experience will not be stable until minimum 2025, and probably even later than that.
What are block themes?
Block themes are themes that specifically opt-in to the full Gutenberg / Full Site Editor experience that is highly experimental and currently under very heavy development.
I'll be very blunt here: my opinion is that WordPress is doing active harm to the WordPress space by promoting block themes in day to day use, when in fact, everything they release breaks often and repeatedly.
Block themes are only for developers. They should not be used on live sites unless you want to spend time fixing stupid unnecessary technical issues instead of focusing on food blogging.
Are Feast themes block themes?
No, we've made an intentional decision not to support or implement block themes based on conversations with industry experts.
Block themes are "shiny new objects" for developers. They're not for real businesses that require stability.
Hybrid themes
Instead, we've taken a "hybrid theme" approach which lets us support more established block features while relying on the stable classic WordPress setup. Most of the Feast Plugin and Feast+ make use of the block-based setup such as the:
The decision to use the block editor where it makes sense, while avoiding unstable Full Site Editor features, was done purely to reduce the technical workload of our users.
