The one thing you truly own in food blogging is your email list. Social media? That can disappear over night. Algorithms change.
These are the people who you've received permission from to enter their most sacred inbox. And most of you (well, us too) have been doing it wrong.
Hands up if you've been sending out your most recent posts to your newsletter? Yeah, that's usually not great.
But this talk from Matt Molen from PersonalizedPaths is insight worth its weight in gold. Learn how to build email campaigns your readers actually want, and build a loyal following.
The gist of the talk is to create thematic drip campaigns, around content silos that people want. This involves a lot of work, from creating reader personas to really drilling into your content, but is very much worth it in the long-run.
If someone is interested in paleo breakfast recipes, send them those.
If they're interested in pies, send them pies.
But it doesn't make any sense to send your most recent holiday cocktail recipe to someone who wanted your diabetic-friendly dinner ideas.
What we all need to stop doing it sending out emails to people based on what we happened to make for dinner that week. It doesn't respect your reader's interests or time.
