Feast Fonts
The Feast Fonts Plugin contains the Google fonts recommended in the Feast+ documentation. It's available to current subscribers of Feast+ in the downloads section of your account.
The regular Feast Plugin setup only uses websafe fonts in order to optimize for accessibility, pagespeed, user experience and compatibility. It does not use Google Fonts and does not require the Feast Fonts plugin.
The Feast Fonts plugin:
- improves privacy by loading fonts from your site instead of Google servers, better complying with GDPR
- improves pagespeed by loading fonts from your site instead of Google servers, reducing calls to third party servers
- reduces CLS by loading fonts quicker
- only loads the specific font weights and charsets used in the plugin, rather than all of them.
Note that this is limited to the fonts that we specifically declare support for in Feast+, not all Google Fonts. It does not improve Google Fonts loaded by any third party plugins or scripts.
See Feast+ Feast Fonts documentation here.
Alternative
OMGF may also be helpful in improving pagespeed and CLS by caching Google Fonts it detects, locally on your server.
Note that this is a complicated third-party plugin and we can not provide any support or troubleshooting that comes from using it. We've seen many issues with:
- servers not allowing downloads
- caching conflicts with caching plugins
- changing fonts not being picked up immediately
All support for OMGF must go through their company directly, and may not be available for the free version of the plugin.
